Our farms – Background

The first farm to be acquired by the Nel family was Rooipad, which is located just west of the small town of Augrabies (named after the famous Augrabies falls). This is the main production unit, which until 1979 focused on livestock and raisin production. After the introduction of electricity in 1979 the farm was able to invest in irrigation and cooling fascilities that allowed it to diversify into the production of table grapes. Rooipad produces approximately 600,000 boxes (4.5kg) per annum.
